Meet our friends: Teh Choy Wan admits she is drawn to Emeralds and Platinum
One half of Singapore’s most popular pair of twins, Teh Choy Wan, has grown to love collecting fine jewellery. Alongside her sister Teh May Wan, Choy is a former model and MTV VJ, actress, and now she is a ‘mumpreneur’ known for her cult instagram account @baby_choy.
Known for always looking stunning, particularly at gala events, surprisingly Choy hasn’t always been interested in fine jewellery; it took quite a few years before she owned a serious piece of jewellery.

“My first [fine jewellery] pieces were quite simple, a pair of Mikimoto blush pearl earrings from my husband - then boyfriend - and my vintage Art Deco engagement ring,” says Choy.
“Shortly after marriage I would say my interest in jewellery, especially vintage pieces, grew by a mile.”
Choy isn’t one for restricting herself to icy shades of white, however, since colour is definitely her thing.
“I lean a lot towards coloured stone rings and it does change depending on the season,” Choy explains when asked about her favourite precious stone and metal.

“Right now it’s an Edwardian aquamarine ring, and also a pair of Tanzanite halo earrings, we bought the stones in South Africa and had them custom made here in Singapore.
“I love platinum as I feel it compliments my skin well, and I’m quite drawn to Emeralds in general. There is something majestic about them.”
A single jade stone ring, and a pair of diamond studs are two of Choy’s more sentimental jewellery pieces as they belonged to her late grandmother, alongside her engagement ring “and actually also a pair of her simple jade stud earrings encased in gold” is another beloved jewellery piece.

As for a piece of jewellery Choy is dreaming about? “… A Victorian or Georgian style necklace filled with emeralds and small details of diamonds.”
