Chunky engagement rings are the latest trend

Jan 10, 2022

The fine jewellery industry is noticing a significant shift in style when it comes to engagement rings. Gone are the days when engagement rings meant something dainty and super thin. The new buzzword is a chunky engagement ring which has a thicker look with wider bands and some signet settings.

According to top jewellers, clients no longer wish for a prong-set style of engagement rings with solitaires but look for thicker bands instead. Such styles are durable, comfortable, and fit for daily wear. However, this does not mean that the dainty styles have gone out of fashion completely. It's that people are becoming fond of heavier styles as well.

One of the reasons thicker bands are popular is you get more on a smaller budget. A dainty Solitaire ring would cost much more than a chunky band. The visual appeal is superior in the latter case. Often the dainty rings tend to be fragile, and the prong settings become loose, thus exposing the stones and making them chip. Using a thicker bezel is a good way of protecting a diamond, which is a natural stone. The thicker design provides a perfect sense of security.

The new style of engagement ring has found its many different shapes and stone cuts that have some unique orientation. For example, the cluster design and the off-kilter setting are popular. The other popular styles are multi-stone rings, signature solitaire diamond bands, and bezel rings. A popular style uses one or three diamonds on a heavier gold setting.

The weight of the stones can vary, but the flush Mount setting makes sure that they can be adapted. Some people go for one stone on 18k gold while others prefer three stones. The channel set bands are ones in which stones lie enclosed between two walls of gold. The style is more durable, comfortable and also gives a bold look.

The signet is another style that has a more geometrical shape with a bezel set in the centre. It is one of the most best-selling styles when it comes to chunky engagement rings. It has many interesting options like setting a round diamond inside a different hexagonal bezel. Some people even like to place an oval diamond within a rectangular shape.

Then you have the cigar bands and the bubble bands. These are two solid options with a weighty appearance. It can be stacked as they have many small-sized stones making them look like eternity bands. It is the perfect option for those who do not want a typical engagement ring meant for a bride.
