5 popular diamond cuts for your engagement ring
When it comes to choosing your engagement ring, it is not all about the size of the stone, you also need to think about what type of cut you prefer. Of all the various cuts available, there are five main diamond cuts you can choose from.
ROUND CUT
The classic round cut diamond is one of the most popular shapes for an engagement ring. The round shaped, brilliant diamond will capture instant attention and can be set as a solitaire or team it with a series of smaller diamonds to create a two or three stone engagement ring.
PRINCESS CUT
The princess cut is popular for its ability to create a lot of sparkle and brilliance from even a smaller sized diamond. The geometrical shape can be either a square or a rectangle, and can also be set off with additional smaller stones. However, do be careful with the setting as the sharper corners can catch on clothing.
CUSHION CUT
The cushion cut is an elegant one; with 58 facets this is a diamond cut that is sure to increase the builliance of any stone but is particularly good for a solitaire style setting. This cut is particularly beautiful for a vintage style engagement ring.
EMERALD CUT
The emerald cut with its rectangular set-cut, cropped corners and open table is usually used for coloured gemstones to make the most of their rich shades. However it does look great for an Art Deco style setting, and is a great way to make a large diamond stone look elegant rather than flashy.
MARQUISE CUT
The unique silhouette of the marquise or navette cut not only adds an historical feel to an engagement ring, it is also fabulous at making your finger look longer and more slender. When matched with a series of smaller marquise cut diamonds it adds sparkle with a wonderful bow-tie effect.
