The allure of imperfection is evident in today’s engagement rings

Apr 18, 2022

When you think of an engagement ring, it’s no longer a sparkling solitaire band in the centre of the ring or a petite diamond encircled by accent stones. Instead, you will find a plethora of coloured gemstones placed on the ring finger. From designs to settings and uniqueness of size, there is a lot of variety in engagement rings now. Remember that a flawless gemstone is not an essential criterion anymore; wear an imperfect and unique ring meant to startle and please at the same time.

Choose something different

You may find emeralds, pink, yellow, and blue sapphires, pearls, or rubies can reflect your personality. The inclusions within a diamond can be a positive too. Feel free to use a speckled, grey-coloured diamond or opt for one tinged with blue, green, pink, or brown. Sure, it is sheer idiosyncrasy. But, this has turned the tide lately, making almost every bride fall for an imperfect engagement ring that tells their story most appropriately.

True, diamond is the hardest gemstone and remains a preferred choice for engagement rings. But the moissanite is catching up rapidly in terms of popularity too. It is the second hardest stone and more affordable, making it favoured by many worldwide.

Everyone loves colour

However, the brightest colours used brought out the sparkle in the ring magnificently since time immemorial. Princess Diana regaled her audience by flaunting a 12-carat blue sapphire in a halo setting. Whereas Jennifer Lopez showed off the magnificent 6.1-carat pink diamond right after Ben Affleck put it on her finger. Most celebs remained true to tradition, wearing transient diamonds that sparkled brilliantly.

Many jewellery designers and jewellers have been flooded with requests to mimic the design of their favourite celebrity rings. A trio of coloured sapphires in every hue imaginable has caught the fancy of modern brides at present. However, salt and pepper diamonds have created a trend of sorts; especially with the lone black diamond solitaire being in demand.
