Survey: We still like our diamonds despite the pandemic

Jan 10, 2022

Diamond Nexus, in a recent survey revealed the jewellery preferences of 3,779 women who, in no uncertain terms, made their fearless personal choices known.

When it comes to regular use, a whopping 87% of women trust earrings to jazz up their outfits. A necklace or a pendant dresses up the décolletage of 64%, and fashion rings refuse to back down with an impressive 53% choosing them over bracelets. Despite a pandemic, 22% of the participants feel comfortable spending over US$1,000 on fine jewellery, and 54% shop a few times a year for jewellery. In light of the pandemic, it is quite astonishing that we still like our trinkets enough to invest in them. Only around 19% prefer to keep the shopping limited to special occasions.

Earrings rule the roost

The functional studs win the majority of votes with 87% choosing them over hoops or drop earrings. Elaborate or minimalist, drop earrings still enjoy a loyalty of 37%. The forever fashionable hoops engaged 38% of the women. Diamonds, in all their glory, still remain the most popular choice, especially when it comes to earrings. Coloured gemstones, including fancy diamonds, were perfect on bracelets for 34%, pendant or necklace for 46%, fashion rings for an admirable 51%, and it is nothing but glorious earrings for a whopping 63%.

The passion for diamond earrings continues as 26% of the participants are ready to splurge on 1.5-2 carats diamond. 41% like somewhere between 1 carat and 1.5 carats. A remarkable 9% is confident about investing in diamonds over 2+ carats for her earrings. 24% of the participants keep it reasonable with 0.5 to 1-carat diamonds. Round diamond again wins the race for the best shape for stud earrings followed by the princess, cushion cut, Asscher, emerald oval, pear, radiant, trillion cut, heart shape, and marquise cut.

Necklaces still hold charm!

Solitaires remain the most favourite, even with pendants. 64% vouch for shimmering solitaires as their choice of pendants. Statement diamond necklaces have been chosen by 22%. Multi-stone pendants, bar necklaces, and halo pendants are other favoured options. If it's about chain and pendant, 66% prefer separate pendant and chain. 34% go for an attached chain.

Spellbinding stacked diamond bracelets are popular

Multiple stacked diamond bracelets were chosen by 47%, while 39% love to flaunt a single diamond bracelet. Going even deeper the survey revealed that 51% loved tennis bracelets whereas 26% opt for diamond bangles and adjustable bracelets are ideal for 23% of the participants.

Statement diamond rings still flutter hearts

52% of the surveyed women would go for statement rings instead of the slightly more predictable diamond bands. No statement ring is complete unless there's a large, sensational diamond flaunted as the centre stone. A bouquet of smaller diamonds on a statement ring also impresses 26% of the participants.
